چکیده

The influence of ionic strength and the molecular weight of polyacrylic acid (PAA) on its adsorption and the structure of adsorbed polymer layer on SiO2 surface in the presence NaCl and CaCl2 was measured. Thickness of PAA adsorption layers on the SiO2 surface in these two electrolytes were also measured as well as the expansion coefficient (α) of PAA in CaCl2. The increase of: ionic strength, pH, and the polymer molecular weight causes the increase of PAA adsorption layers thickness. However, PAA expansion coefficient increases with the increase of pH and the polymer molecular weight, but decreases with the increase of ionic strength. The influence of a type of electrolyte and its ionic strength on the zeta potential of SiO2 in the presence of polyacrylic acid (PAA) was measured. As it was observed, the zeta potential is much lower in CaCl2 solution in comparison to the zeta potential in NaCl.

Study of Polyacrylic Acid Adsorption on the Interface of Hydroxyapatite – Electrolyte Solutions

The adsorption of polyacrylic acid (PAA) on hydroxyapatite (HAP) from HAP saturated solutions was studied in this work as a function of PAA concentration, temperature, pH and ionic strength. In all experiments, the adsorption was studied under conditions of negatively charged adsorbent and adsorbate, respectively. These conditions ensured that adsorption was not electrostatically favored. The s...

Adsorption of Hydrophobically Modified Polyacrylic Acid on a Hydrophobic Surface: Hysteresis Caused by an Electrostatic Adsorption Barrier.

The adsorption of hydrophobically modified polyacrylic acid (HM-PAAc) has been compared to the adsorption of unmodified polymers by means of reflectometry. The polymers were adsorbed onto a noncharged hydrophobic polystyrene surface. The adsorption kinetics of both types of polymer is the same until a certain surface coverage. Then the unmodified sample shows a saturation while the hydrophobica...

Comparison of adsorption affinity of polyacrylic acid for surfaces of mixed silica–alumina

The influence of solution pH (in the range 3-9) on the adsorption of polyacrylic acid (PAA) on the mixed silica-alumina surface (SA-3: SiO2 97 %-Al2O3 3 % and SA-96: SiO2 4 %-Al2O3 96 %) was investigated. The following methods were applied in experiments: spectrophotometry, viscosimetry, potentiometric titration, and microelectrophoresis, which enable determination of adsorbed amount of the pol...
